Infant and Child Treatments
Craniosacral Therapy and Soft Tissue Techniques
"Building Strong Children"
"How one is born seems to be closely related to one's general attitude toward life, the ratio of optimism to pessimism, how one relates to other people, and one's ability to confront challenges and conduct projects." Stanislav Grof, M.D., Ph.D.
Correcting and balancing an infant’s structure offers physical, emotional and developmental benefits. Many forces of stress are placed upon an infant that create imbalances in the body. These can manifest as muscle and spinal tension as well as nervous system and emotional irritation.
Identification and treatment of whole body tension patterns is important to an infant’s overall well being. These tension patterns indicate altered physiological functioning which affects not only the joints, muscles, connective tissue, but also the organs, neurological, circulatory, craniosacral and emotional systems.
An infant should be seen if there has been:
- High level of pain during pregnancy
- Stuck unnaturally in utero
- Very long or very short pushing phase
- Umbilical cord around the neck
- Forceps or vacuum deliveries
Also, treatment should be considered if there are signs of trauma including:
- Resistance to being changed
- Constant Low Grade Irritation

Benefits of early treatment include*:
Increased bonding and attachment – Opportunities often arise during this work to enhance mother-infant bonding. Releasing the trauma of compressed and injured areas in the infant often invokes their birth process. This provides a safe container for the mother and infant to reconnect allowing her to contact her infant, expressing her compassion for what her baby went through along with sharing her experience. This often deepens the connection between mother and child and strengthens the child’s ability to join in and participate in life events and supports their capacity to be empathetic and to connect with others.
Increased Self Awareness and Communication – By facilitating mirroring between the mother and infant, there is an increase in the infants self awareness of feelings and an improvement in their ability to communicate those feelings.
Increased Human Potential – As the “noise” of the trauma and disturbance quiets in the infants systems, they are more able to connect with their essential nature and express it. Infants will often demonstrate new behaviors and interests after their trauma is released. Their talents and unique qualities emerge and develop as a result of their access to their true potential.
Dr. Lisa Polevoy:
Dr. Lisa is the mother of two children and has been treating families and children since 1997. She is a talented chiropractor and a sensitive healer. She has post graduate education in Neurology, Craniosacral Therapy, Pediatric Chiropractics and Infant Fascia Release Techniques.
Her second daughter showed signs of a stubborn whole body tension pattern at three months of age. Her spine was not developing straight but in a C shape with her head severely restricted to the left. Through this work her baby released tension that had developed in utero. She quickly went from a quiet, fairly immobile baby who could only turn her head to the right to an animated baby that turned her head normally to both sides. She soon started tracking her environment, reaching and grasping and verbally expressing her wants and needs. She started sitting upright on her own and crawling at 6 months and pulling herself up to stand at 6 ½ months. This profound development was clearly a direct result of the trauma and facial release work she received. |
